What experience do the doctors have?
Both Dr. Cook and Dr. Mathews have over twenty years experience in treating musculoskeletal (muscle and bone) conditions. Dr. Cook is a 1985 graduate of the Logan College of Chiropractic and Dr. Mathews is a 1985 graduate of the National University of Health Sciences. Both doctors have had experience in both a large group practice setting and also in their own successful individual practices prior to forming Back Care Professionals. They have enjoyed a working relationship with each other for over fifteen years. Each brings his own unique area of expertise, insight and knowledge to the practice, as well as excellent established working relationships with area medical practitioners.
What types of conditions do the doctors treat?
The most common conditions the doctors see are musculoskeletal (muscle and bone) in nature. Locked joints, irritated nerves and muscle spasm can lead to many types of ailments. Back pain, neck pain, headaches, shoulder pain, arm pain, leg pain, disk problems, arthritis and sciatica are the most common.
What type of treatments does Back Care Professionals offer?
After an evaluation and a determination that a condition can be helped with chiropractic, a program of care may be recommended. This care can include gentle chiropractic adjustments along with the application of heat, ice, muscle stimulation, exercise or other types of conservative therapies.
Do the treatments hurt?
Spastic muscles, locked joints and irritated nerve endings never make for a fun time. The doctors understand this and work gently to help relieve these conditions. Many describe the chiropractic adjustments and therapies as "feeling good and relaxing." There can be times when the muscles, joints or nerves may initially resist therapy. This is generally infrequent but it is a normal healing reaction.
Are there problems the doctors don't treat?
Yes. There are many conditions that chiropractors cannot and should not treat. Initial and follow up evaluations, good doctor/patient communication and common sense are all necessary to determine if a case is a chiropractic one or not. If the doctors feel that a condition is not a chiropractic case they will refer to the appropriate medical practitioner.
How long do I have to go for treatment?
As long as you want. The doctors at Back Care Professionals believe it is their responsibility to provide the finest chiropractic care available. They also feel that it is up to you to decide if you want that care, when you wish to begin and how long you want to benefit. It is not uncommon for people decide to continue periodic care when they discover that they feel and function better with it.
How much does care cost?
This is always a difficult question. Minor problems are handled easily and require only a short period of care. Long term or more serious conditions are in need of more attention and time. A health problem is always unique to the individual. The treatment and length of time under care varies with each person. Fortunately, most insurances cover chiropractic care. If the insurance coverage is poor, or if there is no coverage at all, then comfortable financial arrangements can be made.
Will the doctor explain my care to me in a way that I can understand?
Sometimes terms and descriptions of a medical nature can be confusing. The doctors feel that everyone should have a comfortable understanding of their condition and the treatment that they receive. The doctors and staff will be happy to answer your questions at any time. Asking questions is a great way to learn. So, please ask. If you don't, we will.
What if I don't like something about office, staff, doctor or procedure?
The only way the doctors can continue to provide quality care is from feedback. If there is a problem with the staff or the office in any way, please let the doctor know immediately. If for some reason there is a problem with the doctor, let a staff member know. Sometimes there are procedures that neither the patient nor the doctors like but must be followed due to statute or law.
